David J. Berardo

David J. Berardo concentrates his practice in the areas of international business transactions, international tax, estate planning including wealth transfer, and domestic and international exempt organizations.

Mr. Berardo received his B.A. degree in 1964 from Pomona College in Claremont, California and his J.D. degree in 1967 from the University of California at Los Angeles. He is a member of the California and Los Angeles County Bar Associations.

Mr. Berardo currently serves as an arbitrator for the National Association of Securities Dealers (NASD) and as a director for the Friends of International Charity, an exempt organization. He is also a frequent lecturer on international tax law.

Mr. Berardo was formerly a partner-in-charge of the Los Angeles office of an international accounting firm (since sold to American Express) with responsibility for developing the international tax consulting and compliance practice. 

Over the years, Mr. Berardo has developed a unique international practice, largely credited to living in Austria and Germany as a foreign exchange student and living in England and working in Saudi Arabia in the 1970s and early 1980s.  Mr. Berardo’s practice involves all aspects of foreign tax planning and asset protection for foreign persons living in the United States, as well as for foreign corporations.  More recently, Mr. Berardo has expanded his international practice to establishing Maquiladora operations in Mexico and representing companies doing business in China.

In his international practice, Mr. Berardo represents individuals, corporations and exempt organizations in connection with the formation, management, mergers, acquisitions and reorganization of foreign and domestic trusts, corporations, and partnerships, as well as structures investments by foreign persons in U.S. real property and other commercial ventures.  Mr. Berardo also concentrates his practice in the domestic tax planning arena, involving restructuring of corporations and partnerships, as well as estate planning for high net-worth individuals.
